In EHM, for those unaware, you "set" a primary position for a player with a 20. 16-19 also appear on the player's profile. So if a player is 20 LW, 17 LD, 16 C, they would be a LW/LD/C.
In the CHL, all players on wing or D will get a "15" for the opposite side. You will appear only as a LW if you signed up as a LW/RW. So this is how everyone looks:
C: 10/20/10
RW: 15/10/20
LW: 20/10/15
LD: 20/15
RD: 15/20
What this means is you forwards will be capable of playing all positions. Wingers at center may struggle, as will centers on the wing. This will be described even more in-depth shortly. This is how your profile will look if you are a right wing:
So as you can see, signing up for either wing or D will make you more than competent at both sides of the ice.
However, you can improve.
Remember EHM is very, very indepth. You have a ton of attributes dealing with your mental game now. They are just as, if not more, important than your "Shooting" and other technical attributes.
So a player with Versatility, Work Rate, Determination, Professionalism and other mental areas high will be able to deal with having the coach "teach" them a new position in practice. They may even excel at it.
Everyone in-game is 26 years old. It's slightly easier in EHM to add positions for someone young, so if you want to be the versatile player (maybe even a forward learning to play defense) you're going to need to plot out your attributes very well.
Just so everyone is aware, for this league there are "really" only 4 positions: Center, Wing, Defense, and Goalie. The side choices are just a preference as any Wing can play either side. Depending on the player and GM or head coach, you can be taught new positions.
